Tips for New College Freshmen

Yesterday evening while running errands with my family, my husband introduced me to Ashley, a recent high school graduate.  She’s eager to begin her college career in January 2012.  She took the semester off to get herself together (her words) and she is ready to get back into the groove of studying, attending classes, and creating some new experiences. 

I could feel her positive energy and shared in her excitement.  I asked her a few questions about her new academic adventure regarding orientation, living on campus, and her financial aid package.  She was still working on those things and wanted to meet with me later to figure out her next steps.  I happily agreed to give her an idea of how to plan her next few weeks before the beginning of the term.

For those of you joining Ashley as new college freshmen in a few weeks, I hope you are just as excited.  It is truly a joyous occasion and milestone.  Just in case you want a few tips, I’m sharing a brief list of what Ashley and I will review tonight, when we review her academic and professional goals.
